How to make vegan spicy black bean burger
Firstly, take the flax egg and put in the fridge to set. As a rule of thumb, flax egg is one part flax, three parts water. This will come together into a jelly texture to replace the egg to bind the burger.
Then drain and rinse the black beans and mash with a potato mash or fork in a bowl.

Next, blend and add the breadcrumbs, prep and chop the remaining ingredients, and add into the bowl with the set flax egg from the fridge. Mix together thoroughly (I like to use my hands to do this to bring the ingredients together).
Divide and mould the burgers into four large patties, or six medium patties (photographed is the mix separated into four which makes for a very chunky burger). It’s easiest to divide evenly first, then roll into balls, and flatten.
After you’ve made your patties, refrigerate for a minimum of 10 minutes to allow them to set, making them easier to cook.

As a delicious topping, mix the vegan mayo, tomato ketchup, sriracha and mustard into a simple burger sauce.
After making your sauce, prepare your toppings before frying your burgers. I like to add jalapeños, lettuce, salsa and avocado for these bean burgers.

Finally, heat some olive oil in a pan over a high heat. And then add the burgers and fry on either side for 5-10 minutes, or until fully browned. These woud also work brilliantly on a BBQ!
When the burgers are nearly done, you can also add a slice of vegan cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid until the cheese melts.

(Optional) Toast the burger buns in a pan for a minute or two on each side.
Then layer your burger buns up with the lettuce, burger sauce, the burger, jalapeños, salsa and avocado. Dig in and enjoy!
Serve alongside my homemade chips or slaw. If you’re making this as part of a BBQ feast, try with my potato salad and veggie kebabs.

Can you use a normal egg for this recipe instead of the flax egg? Thank you
