Roasted Spicy Chickpeas

GF / NF / NS / SF / VG
Jump to Recipe

An easy and tasty snack that is as healthy as it is yummy. Roasted spicy chickpeas are not only a healthy snack, but the perfect thing to serve at a party. Chickpeas are filled with protein, brimming with vitamins and minerals, and legumes are such an important part of a healthy, balanced plant based diet. Adding some harissa paste and cayenne pepper makes these chickpeas into spicy bites of yum.

All you’ll need is:

  • 2 tins of chickpeas, drained and rinsed thoroughly

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp harissa paste

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • Pinch of sea salt

Start by draining and rinsing the chickpeas, and then patting them dry in a tea towel. Add them to a bowl and pop on your flavourings! I went for harissa, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, sea salt and pepper, with a generous helping of olive oil. You can play around with these spices and flavourings, using things such as pesto, nutritional yeast, cumin, garam masala, curry powder – anything goes!

Toss everything together to coat the chickpeas evenly, and then add to a baking tray. You can use a baking sheet or silicone mat here to stop anything from sticking, but it should be fine without. Roast in a preheated oven at 200°C fan for around 30-35 minutes, or until golden and started to crisp up. Serve up and enjoy!

Why not try sesame seed chickpeas as a different taste?

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • Good pinch of sea salt

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Ingredients

  • 2 tins chickpeas (drained and rinsed thoroughly)
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp harissa paste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 pinch Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Make sure the chickpeas are as dry as possible, by drying/rolling them on a clean kitchen tea towel.
  • In a bowl, combine the chickpeas, olive oil, spices and sea salt.
  • Tip onto a silicone lined baking tray and bake for about 30-35 mins. Half way through, give them a shake to move them about. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn.
  • Remove from the oven when they’re golden and serve. They will keep for a couple of days in an airtight container.
