How to Create a Vegan Cheeseboard

A beautiful vegan cheeseboard is the perfect way to welcome guests or round off a meal. It’s fun, encourages sharing, and invites everyone to interact at the table a little longer. Plus a vegan cheese can be just as delicious as it’s traditional counterpart.
Here’s how to create a tasty centrepiece for your next dinner party or festive gathering, featuring some of my favourite homemade vegan recipes.

The Cheeses
Every cheeseboard needs a variety of textures and flavours. Think sliceable, spreadable, and something with a little sharpness.
Vegan Sliceable Cashew Cheese
You MUST try this one: smooth, flavourful, and firm enough to cut into wedges. Cashews and nutritional yeast create richness, while lemon adds a bright zing. Serve it at room temperature so it’s easy to cut.
Garlic & Herb Almond Cheese
For something softer, try this spreadable almond-based cheese. Packed with herbs, garlic, and lemon, it contrasts beautifully with the cashew cheese and works wonderfully on crackers or focaccia.

The Breads
Bread is just as important as cheese here, and making your own gives the board an extra special touch.
Golden, fluffy, and deeply satisfying, focaccia is perfect for tearing and sharing. Add rosemary and sea salt for a festive feel, or scatter over sliced olives for extra flavour. For more bread recipes check out my Basics of Bread digital ebook which has tons of vegan bread recipes.
Light puff pastry twisted with vegan cheese and garlic makes for a fun finger food that looks elegant and adds crisp texture to the board.

Accompaniments
A cheeseboard comes to life with complementary flavours and textures. Aim for a mix of fresh, salty, and sweet:
-
- Fresh fruit: Grapes, figs, or sliced pear add natural sweetness.
- Pickles & olives: Their acidity cuts through the richness of the cheeses
- Nuts: Toasted walnuts or almonds bring crunch and warmth.
- Condiments: A simple tapenade or chutney provides brightness and depth. For ease you can grab any nice chutney at your local supermarket or farm shop. Or if you’ve got extra time? Try my Tomato Tapenade or Apple Chutney

Styling Your Vegan Cheeseboard
- Start with the cheese – Place your cashew wheel and almond cheese first. They act as the anchors of the board.
- Add bread – Fan slices of focaccia around the edges and stack garlic twists for height.
- Fill the gaps – Tuck in clusters of grapes, small bowls of olives, and piles of nuts.
- Finish with colour – Sprigs of rosemary or thyme not only look beautiful but also add a subtle aroma.

Hosting Tips
Prep ahead: Both cheeses can be made the day before, so all you’ll need to do is assemble before guests arrive.
Room temperature: Bring cheeses out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving for the best flavour and texture.
Mix textures: Combine soft and crisp, salty and sweet, to keep things interesting.
Pair with drinks: A chilled white wine, a light red, or even sparkling water with citrus makes a lovely match.

A vegan cheeseboard doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special. With a few homemade elements, some thoughtfully chosen accompaniments, and a little attention to presentation, you can create a spread that is delicious and feels thoughtful.
Hopefully it encourages your guests to relax, share, and enjoy good food together—perfect for a dinner party or festive gathering.
