20 High Protein & High Fibre Recipes

A high protein diet has been heralded as the ultimate hack to a healthy life by online wellbeing gurus for many years. Eating high protein has been promoted as the simple answer to weight loss and lognevity. However, fibre has more recently entered the chat, as studies show a high fibre diet is the key to good health, and removing fibre from your diet in pursuit of higher protein foods can actually do more harm than good. The reason being, fibre is the key ingredient to a healthy digestive system, equalling a slower digestive process, regulation of blood sugar and therefore keeping you full for longer.
As someone who has been eating a plant-based diet for over a decade I often get asked where I get my protein. The assumption is that my muscles are withering away without consuming meat multiple times a day. In my experience however, I have managed to eat plenty of protein during my time as a vegan, especially during the times when strength training and building muscle have been a priority for me. The answer is that many plants have protein. In fact they not only have protein, but they also have the magical ingredient: fibre. A perfect pairing that is missing from animal products. Fibre helps to lower blood sugar levels, cholesterol, aids with digestion, lowers the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and bowel cancer. In my eyes it is essential to consider fibre intake if you want to lead a healthy life. Here is a fantastic article breaking down dietary fibre, the health benefits, how much you need and where to get it from.
So why not try eating a high protein and high fibre diet. Many plants like tofu, chickpeas, lentils, black beans or tempeh are packed with both.

They’re easily adaptable to make them even higher in protein if you simply up the amount of legumes, and they of course taste absolutely delicious!
