Marmite dates way back to 1902 when it was invented by a German scientist who discovered that this beer brewing by-product could be concentrated, bottled and eaten. In 1912 when vitamins were first discovered, Marmite saw a boost in sales as it was on of the only foods that good give people Vitamin B.

The early 20th Century saw Marmite cement its status as a British classic as it was included in World War One rations and even sent out to homesick British troops in Kosovo in 1999.

Making this 5 minute snack is so simple. Add the coconut oil to your pan, pop in the kernels, cover and wait for the pop!

But I learned a small trick years ago to ensure the popcorn pops perfectly every time! Simply add your coconut oil and three popcorn kernels to a pan over low to medium heat. Put on the lid and wait for them all to pop. Then you know the temperature is just right, so add the remainder of the kernels, put the lid back on and listen as they pop away. Make sure to give it a little shake here and there to coat the kernels evenly.

Once your popcorn is done, melt the butter and marmite together, and pour all over. Make sure to give it a good shake or mix after so that the marmite butter covers all of the popcorn.

Notes
- I never measure this recipe but the measurements there are for your reference. I use a spoon to scoop in the coconut oil, fill the kernels so the base of the pan is totally covered, and use a large spoonful or two of butter depending on my mood!
- If you prefer a stronger flavour, go for more butter and more marmite depending on your preference.
